So I know I have been MIA, but I have a very good reason! I was in Houston welcoming my newest grandbaby to the world!! Let´s hear it for Carmelina and her exhausted mother…..I miss them already!

Ok…now back to Real Estate! Here are my favorite homes this week!

1561 Gaywood Dr. Altadena

So this home was on the market a few years back and the owner bought the vacant lot next door along with it too! I thought she was going to move in her family into the big house and build herself a house on the vacant lot, but in the end she decided to resell the big house. Her realtor was in charge of getting the home whipped into shape so that they could sell it and she did a mighty fine job if I do say so myself. So here is your chance to buy a wonderful mid-century style home in the Foothills of Altadena on nearly an acre and it is all flat! They did not remodel everything, but what they did do was very tasteful! I especially like the kitchen and I love that ledge they created to divide the black countertop that goes half way up the back and then tile above that ….I like that! It has a wonderful floor plan with big rooms for a big family! Not only do you have a large pool area, but you also have a full size north/south tennis court! Don´t play tennis? Then dig it up and create more yard……I mean it´s nearly an acre so you can do whatever you want!

There is no bargain to be had here……but it is a darling home that has been stylishly remodeled in South Pasadena so that means you will have to pay the piper!! This home was re-imagined by our local HGTV star Carmine! Usually he goes a little overboard on the wallpaper. But this time he kept it to just one wall in the living room and the powder room. Let´s face it….powder rooms are made for dramatic wallpaper!! It has a nice sized living room and then an open dining/kitchen area. It is an old house so the floor plan is not perfect, but very comfortable for the most part. The yard space is small and they converted the 1 car garage into an office….but still….South Pas is hard to get into so don´t miss this one if South Pas is where you have to live!

Being on Altadena Drive is not ideal, but this is a lot of nicely remodeled house for the money so some compromise has to be made…right? The living spaces are very nice with a remodeled kitchen and an open flow through the living, dining and family room space that flow out to the backyard. Ok….one thing that really bothers me is the mantle on the fireplace…..it is not centered around the opening at all!! I could not live there without redoing the mantle….it would drive me nuts!!! The other thing that I don´t like is that the flooring changes from one type of flooring in the living areas to another type of fake hardwood flooring in the bedrooms. Other than that, I really like the house and the backyard is private and pretty!

This house is better in person than in pictures…..and it is definitely a good amount of space for the money…..especially when it is located on a quiet cul-de-sac in the X-mas Tree Lane neighborhood of Altadena. You can tell it was originally a 2 + 1 and I don´t particularly care for a master suite off the kitchen area, but it is not so bad when you see it in person. They did a very tasteful job of remodeling and I can see that they left the option open to rent the master suite separately since it has a separate entrance and they have a sort of….kitchen…… I like the idea of the bonus room off the garage, but it kills so much of the backyard that I would actually tear it down or open it up to be a covered patio.

Price per square foot wise……this is no bargain. But it is soooooo cute! What a great little cottage on the border of South Pasadena! I just love all the charming details! Let´s start with the Wisteria covered porch at the entry and then slide into this adorable space with beamed ceilings throughout. I love all the wood cabinetry in the kitchen….so much warmth in this world of super modern cold construction! If it was just me and I didn´t have to deal with all my husband´s stuff……I would buy it in a heartbeat!!

You can´t get cheaper than this north of Foothill in Monrovia!!! This is a great condo alternative at a great price! Definitely worth seeing if you want a great neighborhood but not have to pay the great price!!
